Risks, Concerns, And Implications

This development has raised alarm bells, as the number of deepfake videos has already surged recently. A study published in the journal _Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences_ found that the number of deepfake videos online increased by 900% between 2018 and 2020 (Matern et al., 2021). The rise of deepfake technology has significant implications for individuals, organizations, and society as a whole.

Deepfakes have been used to spread misinformation, manipulate public opinion, and even influence elections (BBC, 2020). With Sora 2, OpenAI is making it easier for users to create convincing AI-generated videos, which could further exacerbate the problem. As reported by _The New York Times_, OpenAI’s CEO, Sam Altman, has acknowledged the potential risks associated with Sora 2 and has called for regulations to mitigate its misuse (Altman, 2023).

One area of concern is the impact of AI on the job market. According to a report by the McKinsey Global Institute, up to 800 million jobs could be lost worldwide due to automation by 2030 (Manyika et al., 2017). This has led to calls for policymakers to invest in education and retraining programs that prepare workers for an AI-driven economy. The use of AI has also raised concerns about bias and fairness.

AI systems are only as good as the data they are trained on, and if that data is biased, the AI system will likely perpetuate those biases.

For example, a study by researchers at MIT found that facial recognition systems, which are often used in law enforcement, were less accurate for people with darker skin tones (Buolamwini & Gebru, 2018). This has significant implications for the use of AI in high-stakes applications, such as healthcare and criminal justice.

As AI continues to evolve, it is essential to prioritize transparency, accountability, and ethics in its development and deployment.
