Asteroid 2024 CR9 was discovered by the Panstarrs survey on February 15, 2024. The asteroid is 330m-750m in size. At the time of imaging, it was 7. 8 million km from Earth and slowly approaching. It will reach its minimum distance of 7. 4 million km from Earth on June 11, 2024, at 00:02 UTC. This distance is 19 times the average lunar distance.
There are no risks to Earth from the asteroid.

The image above comes from the combination of three, 600-second exposures, remotely taken with the Celestron C14+Paramount ME+SBIG ST8-XME robotic unit available as part of the Virtual Telescope Project in Manciano, Italy. The telescope tracked the apparent motion of the asteroid, so it looks like a sharp dot of light, indicated with a white arrow, while stars leave bright streaks on the background.
At the imaging time, the asteroid was just 8 degrees above the Southern horizon.
